L.I. EQUINE'S MESSAGE BOARD

Welcome to LI Equine's Message Board! This is the place to post your ideas, suggestions, stories, etc. All are invited to keep us up to date on what's going on at your barn in the "Barn News" section. The "Bargain Barn" is available for you to list for sale all items under $100 (any item over $100 is considered a classified ad and must be submitted as such!) Please remember that we do not post horses for sale, lease, or share board unless the horses are for free. We also don't post classified ads on the message board. And....please remember - if you don't have anything nice to say - don't say anything at all!

Work in Exchange for lesson, lease and riding time
We have a great program for a working student Youths or Adults English or Western. Barn duties include feeding and stalls, preparing horse for training sessions working along side trainer, much of which you would have to pay for your first semester at any good breaking and training University.
This work is in exchange for lessons, lease with unlimited lessons, or riding time. You can lesson all week in the right program. We are unique in that we offer programs in both english and western disciplines for our students in this program. We go to all the local english and western shows along with USEF and QH, NBHA, IBRA and NPBA at home and away. Working a few days will give you this opportunity and at a fee you can afford. We have a few days open at this time if you have always wanted to improve on your horsemanship on a good horse in a good lesson program, and have time to work this off one or two days a week call us 631 445 2412 or wwe.outlawacre.com

  Horse Rescue
I would like like to THANK the Smithtown Fire Dept., Suffolk County Park Police and Suffolk County Police, 4th Pct. for the incredible search and rescue of our horse. He got out of yard and walked onto a pool cover and was trapped in cover. I would like all horse owners to be aware of the wonderful, caring job everyone did. The horse sustained terrible abrasions on his legs where he was trapped but is doing very well. It was a horrible ordeal, but the caring police, rescue workers and NEIGHBORS, were a tremendous relief. Our vets, Drs. Darish and Karcher arrived quickly and Sarah's calming presence and knowledge were a gift.
Thank you

  RE:Brookhaven Zoning
No barn, stable or other roofed structure or accessory building for the sheltering of horses shall be located within 50 feet of any side yard line or rear yard line, nor shall any such structure be located within the front yard which lies between the principal residential structure and the street.
(3) All corrals, runs or other open areas shall be enclosed by a fence of at least five feet in height with openings no more than six inches in width. Such fence shall be located more than five feet from any side yard line or rear yard line and shall not be located within any front yard which lies between the principal residential structure and the street.
(4) There shall be at least 110 square feet of barn or stable area for each horse or other type of equine livestock.

I believe you can have as many 10x10 sheds on property. So a run in type shelter probably fits in that catagory! Good luck I hope this helps.. You can find more info at brookhaven.org!

  horse needs work AGAIN :(
I posted this before, it didnt work out, so I will post it again. My daughters horse is just sitting around and could really use someone to ride him. $100 a month ride as much as you want but he stays in our barn. There is a lit ring with jumps. He is 17.3, a big boy, but he thinks hes only 15 hands, sweet and mellow all around horse. Email me if you are interested......

  IHA GYMKHANA 8/15
THE LAST SHOW OF THE SEASON WENT OFF WITHOUT A HITCH!!

Much thanks to Romanski Farms and to Kelley Schauder for being able to borrow Romanskis water cannon on saturday!! Although the water pressure at the park is NOT enough for it to work as quick as it can the job got done after 4 hours with Kelley, Gregg and Sheralee supervising! The ring held up well on Sunday despite how dry it has been!!! Then Sunday Joey our ringmaster graded AFTER someone had overnite DRIVEN IN THE RING!!!! He made it really good again!!! Gregg also was there with his tractor so we kept the ring good all day.

"Mommy and Me" Program at Project Sage Horse Rescue
Project Sage Horse Rescue is starting a new program at our new farm in Northport. We are looking for horse lovers 16 and older that want to come to the farm and spend time one on one with a rescue horse. You will be assigned one horse to work with and spend time with. Each horse will have two "Mommy's". We have many horses that need TLC and this program gives the horses a chance to have a one-on-one relationship with someone until they are adopted. Your responsibility will be working on ground manners, grooming, and riding. You will be responsible for the over all care of the horse. We always have older retired horses that just need to be pampered. All applicants MUST be experienced with horses. References will be checked and there is a short interview process. This is a great program for people who are looking to help the rescue horses become more adoptable.

  Adoption Saves a Life
Project Sage Horse Rescue has some very nice horses waiting for their forever homes. Can you give a horse another chance at life by offering a forever loving home? Adoption of a rescued horse opens a spot for another horse, in danger of being shipped to slaughter. Please help if you can. Look at our website for pictures and descriptions of the available horses. Email me at Sportie1030@aol.com to make an appointment to come out and meet a horse. You don't have to ride to adopt and love a horse. I have some horses just waiting to give their unconditional love. Please spread the word...we need homes for many horses.

If you are unable to adopt at this time, donations are also greatly needed to feed and care for these horses while they wait. No donation is too small! If you work for a company please ask if they will donate or match your donation. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and donations are tax deductable.

If you have a fundraising idea and would like to run an event for the horses email me with your idea. I would love your help!

If you have season tickets and can donate two that you won't be using, please donate them to Project Sage. I can raffle them off to benefit the horses. If you have something you can donate I will turn it into donations for the rescue!

Please copy this post and email it to everyone in your address book and ask them to please do the same. It may save one life.

Donations can be sent to:

  Congrats!
Congratulations to Jen who rode our draft horse Leo (AKA Lazy Leo) in the IHA show today. Drafts are not known for their ambition on a warm day. She got a 3rd, 4th and a 6th and Leo was very well-behaved. It was a first show for both of them. Jen's friend Angela also did very well in her classes.

  Looking for a stall
I put an ad on Li horse properties as well but I figured I would post here as well.

I am looking for a barn with an extra stall available with either an in/out or a stall with a separate paddock. The barn needs to be in either Medford, Islip area, Bohemia and possibly Mannorville or Ridge. Board can't be more than $500. I ride english and western, a barn near trails would be a plus. I will respond ASAP. I need to move my horse by the end of the month.

The Western Pleasure Committee would like to thank the many helpers who lent a hand before, during and after our first show. You made this the best show the present committee has had so far. Our first ever Bridleless Riding class was fantastic, with four riders executing a Horsemanship pattern without the aid of a bridle or halter. Great riding by all and congratulations to Matt Savarese for coming out first. Congratulations also to Gregg Norton on being the winner of our first $50.00-Added Open Reining Class, sponsored by The Hay Loft. Our Hunter entries found that besides their ribbons, F.W.Sims had a small prize for all the entrants. Thank you all again, riders, volunteer trail judge, and the very many helpers!

    Hi!

I am a pre-veterinary student interested in a volunteer position, an internship or working for low pay over the summer with a vet. I have been around horses for over ten years and I have no issue with working hard, I have references available. However, I would be equally as happy to work with a small animal vet; any experience would be great! I am a people person as well, I'm a customer service representative at the tax office part time. I really would appreciate any opportunities offered to me. I am coming back from Virginia Tech in mid-May and can work my office hours to suit. Please feel free to contact me if any of this sounds good to you, hope to hear a response!

Thank you!
