We would also be interested in exchanging riding time for general help around the barn. We are located in Nassau county and would prefer something close to home.   Show attire
Also depends on what she is riding and what she is showing in. IMHO if she is riding a pony in short stirrup, beginner or even maiden classes I would put her in jods and garters. If she's doing the children's hunters- jods and garters for small/mediums and tall boots for larges. If she's on a horse, jods and garters are ok for short stirrup and beginner. All else- tall boots. If you can't find jods long enough- put her in tall boots. Whats most important though is that no matter what she wears it should fit and look neat, comfortable, and attractive. I would rather see a girl in properly fitted tall boots than jods too short they ride up.

  NPBA Info
Currently on Long Island there are no NPBA Sanctioned Futurity Competitions. In 2010
We will be hosting one in Manorville, LI. As you know the higher the futurity payouts the more the participation by the competitors who follow these specialty events.

With that said, we are requesting Sponsor money from individuals as well as organizations interested in the sport. We feel it is advantageous to all if the futurity were to be large enough we it would attract Connecticut, New Jersey and Pennsylvania riders with young stock. Even though the time spent on the road by competitors coming to Long Island might be lengthy, a solid futurity would certainly be attractive enough for them to want to brave the trip. The closest futurity location for this area is West Virginia or Ohio out of the tri state area and a much longer trip.

Also we will be running regular NPBA 3D classes so they can also participate with their other stock in other events.

. Second Place AQHA High Point Standings
Senior Pole Bending 2008

Doug is from the New England State area and will help us promote this futurity in those areas at his Clinics. They can take the ferry right to Long Island making it easy access for a larger turnout.

Next show weather permitting will be held with IBRA show at Hidden Pond 11/29/2009 and 12/13/2009

Qualifications for Nationals
They have stopped for qualifying for the shows. it used to by that you had to attend 2 local shows or 1 regional qualifying show. Since then its just a current membership in order to go. .

NPBA Cards
Many of the members don't receive cards either. We believe that they have stopped issuing cards. Our Tri State Director will see if I she can issue cards here with the current list to help us out. Carolyn is great stays on top of things, list our shows, and plans on coming down from upstate NY to do some shows with us, to show support. I will attend the round up this year to secure our dates for publications.

We did two shows in 2007 and for the 2008 to 2009 show series 4, and for the 2009 to 2010 show series 1 so far (starting in August) and two more dates weather permitting for this year and 2010 dates to follow. However, you don’t need to do shows to qualify for Nationals you just have to be a member. Sheralee won the saddle in 2007 and for 2008 to 2009 a $500 gift certificate to Go West (she wanted that instead of the saddle for a nice belt buckle) 2009 to 2010 we have one Show in Noon and Gee in the lead for the 1D saddle, Kim Barba 2D leader, Sheralee Fiore 3D leader Youth 1D Bianca DeLuca no 2D and 3D Corrine Kerins . However, we plan lots of shows for the 2009 to 2010 show series.

We will post dates on this site and outlawacres.com

  Weight Carrier Horse Needed
Seeking a Weight Carrier Horse (i.e. draft X, Stocky QH) for Full Loan/Donation for Therapeutic Riding Facility, that will be used for daily riding lessons teaching Special Needs clientele. Horse must have a strong, solid back and be able to carry 200+lbs. Desired traits include: soundness; three good, clear gaits at the walk, trot and canter; nice temperament; ability to tolerate attention by many people; low flight response; and a height of 14.2 hands to 16.2 hands in order to serve children and adult riders. Aforementioned characteristics are required to give clients a safe and physically beneficial riding experience.

Horses coming into a therapy program should be functionally sound at the walk, trot and canter. However, please note that a majority of the horses work is generally slow and mostly at the walk and trot. The horse does not need to move as they did in their prime but do need to be able to function with a four-beat walk, two-beat rhythmical trot and three-beat canter. (A horse that is chronically lame does not have the desired movement to create the three-dimensional walk desired for therapy. This is also not fair to the horse.)

For more information, please contact Antoinette or Amanda at (631) 367-1646 or EquineDirector@horseability.org.

Chasing a Great Cause-- Bake Sale to Benefit Local Horse Rescues
he idea for "Chasing a Great Cause" began with the horse, "Chasing Greatness," or "Chase." Like
many thoroughbreds, "Chase" was raced, and had significant winnings, $400,000 to be exact.
However, "Chase" didn't cut it in the racing world. He collapsed due to an iron deficiency before
finishing a race. So, "Chase" found himself with his legs bound and bleeding on the back of a
trailer where he was fortunately bought before being trailered off to a unthinkable place. "Chase"
went on to become a show horse, competing in the shows including the Hampton Classic and but
most importantly a best friend.

The most important idea that "Chasing a Great Cause" is trying to convey is that horses, no matter
what their condition or background, are NOT disposable. All horses deserve a loving home, and a
chance at life.

Who we are:
"Chasing a Great Cause" was started by two college students, Rachel (myself) and Cynthia. We
were inspired to do this by our horses. Cynthia was the owner of "Chase" who is now happily
retired in the Hamptons. Her current horse, a 7-year-old Appendix QH, was adopted from Project
Sage Horse Rescue. Rachel owns a 21-year-old QH who was bought off a hack line where he
worked for over a decade, and consequentially suffers from severe joint trauma. Our goal

What we are doing:
As of now, we are raising money through bake sales, held at local schooling shows. The proceeds
go to Amaryllis Farm Equine Rescue and Sanctuary and Project Sage Horse Rescue. In the past 2
1/2 months, “Chasing a Great Cause” has placed four horses in retirement or rescues, as well as
raising $500 for one cause, and donated over $300 to another. Our goal is to raise as much
money as possible to make a difference in the life a a horse and to make people aware of the
options there are for elderly, lame, or horses at the end of their careers.

How you can help:
You can help by attending one, or both of our bake sales (times and location listed below).

******We would like more opportunities to raise money for these two rescues ******

****** If your barn is holding an event, and is interesting in helping and hosting "Chasing a Great
Cause" please contact Rachel at raysdanes2000@aol.com or Cynthia at cyncleo151@aol.com . We
would like to expand from bake sales to raffle ticket prizes. ******

When:
Sunday, October 25, 2009
At Hidden Pond Stables in Manorville
8:30am-4:30pm (approximately)
All proceeds from this event will be donated to Amaryllis Farm Equine Rescue and Sanctuary.

Sunday, November 1st, 2009
At Lakewood Stables in West Hempstead
8:30am-4:00pm (approximately)
All proceeds from this event will be donated to Project Sage Horse Rescue

  Congratulations, David Amon!
Veteran Long Island farrier David Amon has placed fourth overall in the 2009 Calgary Stampede Mail-In Forging Exercise. This competition is sponsored annually by the Calgary Stampede (Canada), The World Championship Blacksmiths’ Association and the American Farriers Journal, a trade publication. This summers exercise drew a field of competitors from all over the world, including the US, UK, Canada, New Zealand, Portugal and Brazil. Participants are required to submit a horse shoe which is completely handmade from straight steel bar stock according to the exacting specifications of the contest. This year’s shoe was a Saddlebred shoe with a rolled toe and trailers.

David is pleasantly surprised with the result. He has participated in this exercise for several years , and getting fourth place was an honor -his highest ranking for this contest to date. This is not a typical shoe used in his day to day business, especially here on Long Island, and so presented a challenge. Along with sharpening his forging skills, Dave will receive prizes and products from sponsors. There is a total of nearly $12,000.00 in prizes and products to be split among the top 25 winners. To learn more about the competition, results and to see the contest shoe, please visit www.americanfarriers.com.

David is an American Farrier’s Association certified farrier who has been shoeing and trimming horses on Long Island for more than 20 years. He belongs to several other industry associations as well. He works with all types of horses, from draft horses to show horses to miniatures. Dave believes that each individual horse and it’s particular purpose must be carefully considered on a case-by-case basis, whether he is trimming or applying regular or specialty shoes. Balanced, correct shoeing and trimming for optimum soundness and performance is his goal for each horse. David attends several clinics and competitions annually, and believes that continuing his education benefits not only his personal skills and knowledge, but also the many horses in his care. His next competition will be will the World Championship Blacksmith’s Association, of which he is member, at Equine Affaire in West Springfield, Massachussets in November, 2009. Stop by their tent and look for him there!

Looking for a horse to lease
Hi. Sorry I have posted this so many times but I still havent found the right horse for me yet. Its kinda hard when I was leasing the perfect horse for me and things did not work out at that barn.

I'm a experienced rider looking for a horse to ride (or lease $240 and under). I have been riding for 13 years and my background is hunter/jumper, dressage, and western but I am looking for a western, trail horse, or a horse that does both english and western. I have my own saddle, westernsaddle with semi quarter bars and a wintec english saddle which I can change the gullets in order to fit the horse I am riding. I'm not looking to train someone's horse (even though I have experience in training). The barn must have outdoor ring lights since during the week I intern and work during the day (except Tuesdays) so I would be coming down to ride after work. If the barn does not have lights I will be only be able to ride 2-3 days a week (tues, sat, sun). I do have references (if needed).

Hobby Horse Rookie Rewards Horsemanship Class

Rookie Rewards is a western walk-trot horsemanship class at open horse shows. This special
class is designed to encourage and recognize open show riders, offering them a chance to
perform both rail work and an individual pattern.

Because we are considered an open show, with local competitors, the Hobby Horse Company has
agreed to extend the eligibility to all competitors in a division that has both a Youth and Adult
category, regardless of the past show experience of the competitor. It has also generously given
us $100 gift certificates for both the high point Youth and Adult, with ribbons to fifth place. The
gift certificate is redeemable as specified on the certificate.

The modified class rules are as follows:

1. Open to any age rider showing in western tack and apparel.
2. Horses and ponies of any age and breed are welcome. No stallions.
3. Riders ride one-handed unless horse or pony is age 5 or less.
4. No schooling equipment. Chaps optional. Protective helmets permitted.
5. Judging is combined horse/rider performance. Class will be judged 40% on rail work, 40% on
individual pattern, and 20% on suitability of horse and rider.
6. Judge’s decision is final. Judge may modify pattern or instructions based on weather or other
conditions.

This year’s Rookie Rewards Youth winners are:
Grand: Anna Rowan on Clues Misty Candy (gift certificate and ribbon)
Reserve: Rein America’s Norton on Vicks Wild Jewel (ribbon)
Third: Taylor Pawson on Imagoodbar Ismydaddy (ribbon)
Fourth: Charlene Prince on Chrome Crackerjack (ribbon)
Fifth: Chelsea Knott on B;ack-A-Lena (ribbon)

This year’s Rookie Rewards Adult winners are:
Grand: Jackie Cavaliere on Touch of Z (gift certificate and ribbon)
Reserve: Lauren DeKoning on Loving My Freedom (ribbon)
Third: Maureen DeMartino on Great Sliding Dry (ribbon)
Fourth: Antoinette DeGruccio on FCF Zips Eclipse (ribbon)
Fifth: Vicki Toth on He’s Mighty Gold (ribbon)

Looking for a horse to ride/lease
Hi. I'm a experienced rider looking for a horse to ride or lease ($250 and under). I have been riding for 13 years and my background is hunter/jumper, dressage, and western but I am looking for a western or trail horse. I have my own saddle. The barn must have lights since I may come down after work around 6:30pm during the week. I'm not looking to train someone's horse (even though I have experience in training). I do have references (if needed).

Reliable Adult Looking for Part Time Barn Work
I am a full time Mom, college grad, looking to return to work now that my youngest child is in school. Looking for part time barn work anywhere from Blue Point area to Manorville/Riverhead area. I am NOT looking to exchange work for riding but may consider a swap for training time and lessons for my young western pleasure broke mare. I am also looking to take care of barns and pet/house sit while you vacation. I must work around my kids schedule- The earliest start time would be 9:30 am and I'd be available until 3pm. Cannot do weekends/late afternoons at this time, but it may be possible if I arrange child care.

I have 20+ years experience caring for horses and have my own barn at home. I managed a 40+ stall facility in my college years (late '80's) and had my own boarding/lesson facility, before kids, where I did everything from stalls to lessons to pony parties. I also taught beginner lessons at a large barn in the Huntington area before my younger kids were born. Also worked at the Suffolk County Farm, so I have experience with other types of animals beyond horses, cats and dogs. I am reliable, honest, and a hard working adult who's not afraid to get dirty.

If you're looking for part time help or vacation coverage, please email and let's see what we can work out. Will gladly provide references for you.
Thanks for your consideration.

  Looking For a Barn
I'm looking for a barn within 20 minutes of oakdale/bohemia that has an indoor, lighted ring(s) with jumps, turnout, basically all the necessities, flexible times (as my daughter -14- comes late after school until the summer time.), and an excellent staff! I need 2 stalls, just email me!

Thanks in advance!
