March 23, 2010 -- AMARYLLIS FARM EQUINE RESCUE    Lecture
Lecture: The Facts: Long Island Animal Shelters and Puppy Store Puppies

Speakers: Sharon Hubbard- long time columnist for Long Island papers ww.avoiceforanimals.org
A Volunteer Ambassador, Best Friends Animal Society www.network.bestfriends.org

Sharon Hubbard is an animal rights advocate and pet columnist for The Neighbor Newspaper Group has been a writer and producer for two pet themed television shows which aired on Cablevision and TCI Cable. She will discuss facts of our Town Shelters: Everything you need to know (and everything they don’t want you to know). Learn: how your tax dollars are spent; who runs these shelters; is euthanization necessary; how to transform these shelters into no-kill shelters; what you can do as a taxpayer to help these shelter animals and to stop the unnecessary killing.

Volunteer Ambassador with Best Friends Animal Society will discuss the “Puppies Aren’t Products Campaign”; a campaign which educates people about the puppies in puppy stores and the puppy mills where they were born. Through this campaign, peaceful and educational demonstrations are held at local pet stores that sell puppies from mills, building awareness about inhumane conditions in puppy mills and encouraging people to adopt rather than buy pets. They also advocate for better legislation to combat puppy mills.

If you want your horse to be light, responsive and willing, because he wants to be, this may be what you are looking for. The method is based on very old classical equitation from before the French Revolution. It is a very correct use of the aids that does not use opposition.

Professionals as well as pleasure riders benefit greatly from this week of intense study and fun. As the week progresses each day builds on the previous. Each day takes on its own personality as side trips riding into the rolling mountains and numerous multi colored canyon, discovering and learning about the fern and fauna, horse shoes, swimming, roping, working cattle and adult camaraderie develop. Campfires, dinners under the stars, music, story telling, dancing by the piano, recapping the days events with new friends at happy hour, is enjoyed by all. May 1, 2010 -- AMARYLLIS FARM EQUINE RESCUE    HOW TO GET POLITICAL FOR ANIMALS
Half-day workshop: How to Get Political for Animals
National Institute for Animal Advocacy (“NIFAA”) www.nifaa.org

Speaker: Julie Lewin, President of NIFAA; author of “Get Political for Animals”; trainer for NIFAA workshops held throughout the US which teach how to help animals through forming voting blocs and political organizations in order to win stronger laws for animals in your own town, city, county and state.

Learn how to form, launch and run your political group for animals. It takes only 2 animal activists to run and lobby for a local political group—and you can still hold full-time jobs. Learn how to win substantive laws or local ordinances and their aggressive enforcement; learn how to form a political/lobbying organization that endorses candidates. Lawmakers' number one priority is to be re-elected, and to be re-elected the lawmaker must win a majority of votes cast on Election Day (the "50% plus 1"). See www.nifaa.org for a complete description of these workshops.

What is a Cowboy Race?

A cowboy race is a timed event set over several acres that includes obstacles . It is judged as well as timed. Each obstacle offers the competitor a chance to better their score. If you do your obstacles quickly and smoothly, and you will get a great score. For example, you may receive a score of 0-5 on each obstacle (0 is the worst and 5 is the best) ...you have approximately 15 obstacles (time is considered one of the obstacles)... After all is tallied, the highest score wins... it's really fun!

And Master One Rein Stop

Whispering Hooves Ranch

Miller Place, NY 11764

June 5, 2010

Katherine Barbarite, Nationally and Internationally known Specialist of Gentle Partnership Building, has mastered a straight forward set of exercises that immediately places a solid foundation keeping heightened safety in mind. No matter what riding level or discipline, this clinic builds elevated CONFIDENCE for horse and rider. Take home a higher level of trust, communication and bonding. Replace fear and competition with introducing yourself to your equine friend with the ultimate joy of the dance. Understand the three T’s Theory, Technique, and Timing of Frank Bell’s 7 Step Safety System. Begin your journey in understanding how to use the four quarters.
---Ask and Wait for Answers, then Give for Results---Katherine Barbarite
*Certified Horse Trainer w/ Frank Bell* *Certified CHA Riding Instructor Western & English*

One Day Clinic Katherine will be teaching the highly successful 7-Step Safety System which is used on every single horse she encounters, regardless of age, issue or discipline. In a step-by-step format she teaches her students the process of first, bonding with a variety of horses. The second step involves the most basic premise of all training, pressure and release. Intimacy follows as the horse quickly develops trust and confidence in the handler. Now the movement begins as the two drift into a rudimentary form of
dancing. Next the horse’s buttons are pushed as the search begins in finding the places that can cause trouble and perhaps even danger for the horse or rider. The issues are addressed safely on the ground. The sixth maneuver creates harmony as the horse and handler perform ballet on the ground as they glide in unison and become true partners. When the invitation is extended, the handler will mount and continue the dance in the saddle. Specific exercises are now performed using all the earlier learned techniques. The participants are left with a volume of information to apply to every horse they encounter in the future. This is a very full day with an adequate lunch break to rest horses and riders.
